Cornhole!

Last Wednesday was the manager's meeting, and we had it in a park up in Huntersville. My boss Larry, brought this Cornhole game, so we spent some time playing after conducting some business. I only took one round, I'm not so good at it, and I tend to over shoot, actually hitting my partner once. I am hoping Tim will build us a set because - a.)it's pretty fun, and b.)I need to practice in case we play again.

We Now Return...

...to our regularly scheduled programming. OK, so Mark was on vacation last week and I did get Thursday off (thanks Kim!) But I ended up giving BB 61.23 hours of my life. Needless to say, I took the time to check email and do some stupid stuff on Facebook, but.........I did not update here. So, let's get back on with the show.

VBS

VBS wrapped up tonight at church with a big cookout water play for the kids. My boys had a pretty good time, they aren't into the singing or the hand movements of the songs, but they enjoy the crafts and the stories. Thanks to Mom and Clarann for all the help behind the scenes, and to teachers Michelle, Lynn, Joanie, Kelley, it was great!

The Great Blackberry Adventure

Although we've mentioned blackberries just a couple of days ago, it warrants another mention - because the bushes are just so fab!! I think it's because we actually had rain this year. June bugs haven't been to bad - only a half a dozen or so flew at me to day while I picked - all the same - bugs, thorns - the chance of a snake...

These are the crazy and wild blackberry bushes out back.

They look very pretty up close, but you have to wear long sleeves, jeans and proper footwear, picking them in a bathing suit and flip flops was not a good idea. Needless to say even if it's 100 degrees out - cover up or the prickers will get you.

Fingers turn purple...

But the reward is worth every adventure!

July 4th

On Saturday after work, the boys and Kim, Kevin, Logan and I headed to my friend Lisa's house for a 4th of July party. There was a ton of food - dogs, burgers, bbq, and pork loin, pasta salad, asian slaw, english potato salad, tomatoes in a basil vinegrette kinda thing, baked beans....and that was not including what she had beforehand or the dessert afterward. The boys had a good time swimming, and eating and when the night fell - she had real fireworks! (the picture is just off the computer from somewhere) Max loved that the most!

We left Lisa's to get back to the group gathering at our house. Chris and Elsa brought fireworks, which scared the crap out of me, so I went in, but everyone else had a great time. Fifi even made Sloe Gin Fizzes - which also screams "summer" to me!

July 3rd

So, in Shelby the fireworks are not always on the 4th, this year they were on the third. Tim's boss - Chris invited us to join them on Moss Lake to watch the fireworks. First we went to dinner at a resturuant in Uptown Shelby called Joe's. I had the Veggie Thinza, which is a very thin crust loaded with veggies and parmesan and mozzeralla, yummy. Then we headed to Chris' house and onto the lake. It's amazing the memories that can be triggered by a smell, and the smell of being on the lake - just screamed "summer".
